Slimming World Store Cupboard Essentials

I’ve been following the Slimming World plan for a while now and I’ve learned that there are a few items it is essential to have in my food cupboard at all times. These are generally free foods that can either be used to snack on or to form the basis of a syn free and filling meal, that we will all enjoy.

I’ve learnt that having a well stocked cupboard allows me to stay on track because I always have foods in the house that can be made into meals. This means I am much less likely to cheat, or head to the takeaway after a busy day when I really can’t be bothered to cook (and that happens more often than I would like to admit!).

Obviously my list will probably be different to a lot of other people’s lists but I thought it would be helpful to share what I think are the essentials of sticking to the plan. I find that if my cupboard has these items in then I can always manage to make something vaguely edible.

Tinned Foods

  • Baked Beans
  • Chopped Tomatoes
  • Passata
  • Spaghetti Hoops
  • Chick Peas
  • Kidney Beans
  • Mushy Peas
  • Butter Beans
  • Haricot Beans
  • New Potatoes
  • Mixed Beans
  • Lentils

Dried Foods

  • Pasta (I like having a few shapes in to make things seem a bit different)
  • Lasagne Sheets
  • Canneloni
  • Rice Noodles
  • Wholewheat Noodles
  • Brown Rice
  • Pudding Rice
  • Spaghetti
  • Lentils
  • Couscous
  • Quinoa
  • Buckwheat
  • Basmati rice

Herbs, Spices and Condiments

  • Garam Masala
  • Basil
  • Mixed Herbs
  • Garlic Salt
  • Paprika
  • Frylight
  • Chilli Powder
  • Curry Powder
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Vinegar
  • Balsamic Vinegar
  • Soy Sauce
  • Fat Free Salad Dressing

Frozen Foods (I know it’s technically not in your cupboard but a well stocked freezer definitely helps, especially when you are in a rush!)

  • Spinach
  • Chopped Onions
  • Mushrooms
  • Stir Fry
  • Soya/ Quorn Mince (cheaper and goes further than meat)
  • Peppers
  • Linda McCartney ROAR Sausages

These are my essential items. If I had all of these things in my cupboard then I know I could whip up at least 9 different meals within half an hour, which is quite important to me as I seem to live my life in a rush. Being organised and keeping as much of this in the house as possible also means that I am more likely to stick to the plan as well. And for those of you who think keeping this stock in the cupboards could be expensive….my food shopping bill has actually gone down since I started Slimming World, partly because I’m filling up on cheaper, healthier foods and partly because I need to be more organised so I plan more and therefore waste less!

  1. Got a friend who does slimming world and they swear by a lot of the things mentioned above!! As long as you’ve got pasta you can make anything anyway lol

  2. That list sounds good. How are you getting on? Tempted to give Slimming World a go, have semi done it before but its the £5 a week and having to stay at the meetings that puts me off.

  3. I use a lot of flavourings like paprika, peri peri, black pepper etc now to make food more appealing without overdoing the salt. I just wish I liked more tinned foods like you’ve listed as that would make life a little easier! Great ideas 🙂
